The Weather is Auckland’s Best Kept Secret.
Come to the warmth in the North of New Zealand they say…. Having only moved to Auckland some 6 years ago, I still find amusement in the changeable weather.
Four seasons in one day? Try Four seasons in one afternoon.
Ok, so it’s winter, and I shouldn’t be complaining. Those of you whom fall into the astute category, (Not you, Hone Watson) will probably pipe up and accuse me of having nothing to write about, hence the lament about the weather.
Au contraire, if i’ve got nothing to write about I simply won’t post anything.
The rain lately bugs me. Four bloody weeks of rain. Usually it just rains for about 10 minutes every afternoon, but this has almost been non-stop.
I got to thinking, about how the weather affects peoples’ mood and behaviour, both individually and collectively, and how this may impact on work, spending habits, leisure activities, and perhaps even local economy and production.
It certainly appears that when Summer is here, the sun is shining and people are outdoors, the general mood of the city seems far more affable.
More houses seem to sell, and for better prices in the summer. Business profits (except for those in the energy markets) seem to be higher, and outlook more positive.
Cafe’s and beaches are packed, and even to my surprise are shopping malls.
Of course finance, money markets, and buyer speculation have virtually unlimited influences, but I wonder to what extent the weather impacts on all of these things.
Perhaps if the weather influence is high enough, the coming global warming may unleash a new wave of business profitability, and personal wealth???
